  • Overview

    Our Nursing Divisional Director will lead and guide the nursing and utilization review functions throughout the division; oversee and report on all nursing operations; and assists in business development activities as they relate to the developing proposals, visiting and assessing prospect locations, and participating in pre-bid conferences.

    Qualifications

    Education for Director of Nursing:

    • Master’s Degree required, preferably in Nursing.

    Experience for Director of Nursing:

    • Ten (10) years of work experience in a psychiatric or secure forensic mental health facility with at least Five (5) years of managerial nursing level experience. Utilization Review experience preferred.
    • Must possess a working knowledge of state and federal health regulatory laws, objectives and policies, procedures and requirements for managing secure forensic and mental health facilities as demonstrated by having a combination of relevant work, education and research experience.
    • Must possess extensive knowledge of hospital mental health standards, including regulatory agency requirements (i.e. TJC, CMS, AHCA).
    • Must be able to work independently and within groups.
    • Must be able to work with all levels within the organization.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Must be able to make formal presentations including in front of groups or in written documents.
    • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
    • Above average knowledge of spreadsheet software.
    • This position requires above average travel with frequent overnight stays.

    Licenses/Certifications for Director of Nursing:

    • Licensed as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse Practitioner.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provides professional expertise to Hospital or Facility Administrators and Nursing Directors in managing, hiring, and mentoring all facility-level nursing personnel.

       

    2. Provides corporate-level guidance in all appropriate functions through formal and informal communication designed to maximize individual and facility results.
    3. Provides operational advice through daily contact to all clinical areas at the corporate and facility level to include nursing, health and wellness, and human resources.
    4. Partners with Corporate Contract Compliance to develop operational monitoring tools for utilization management.
    5. Provides guidance in development and execution of facility plan of correction as it relates to medical and clinical regulatory compliance.
    6. Oversees standards and controls through weekly and monthly reviews, site visits, and formal internal, external, and client audits.
    7. Provides information to senior management on the necessary processes and systems to improve total performance.
    8. Establishes checks and balances for policy, processes, and physical structures and equipment.
    9. Seeks and establishes new partners and vendors to maximize internal and external resources.
    10. Works with finance to review pricing and quality to establish the best value for facility initiatives.
    11. Partners with security, medical, and administrative leadership to ensure procedures are consistent with the developmental needs of each patient.
    12. Promotes facility operational policies consistent with the organization’s mission and values.
    13. Provides guidance and participates in new facility start-ups.
    14. Performs on-going reviews to ensure appropriate patient care measures and procedures are updated and maintained on a current basis. Facilitates appropriate training and development for facility leadership and ongoing nursing education programs for licensed nursing staff.
    15. Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate articles, journals, and related material, and by attending seminars, conferences and so forth.
    16. Develops and implements all policies in accordance with The Joint Commission (TJC), state, federal and local requirements.
    17. Partners with Hospital and Facility Administrators and nursing leadership to complete performance evaluations for nursing operations.
    18. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
    19. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
    20. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
    21. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
    22. Perform other duties as assigned.
