  • Overview

    Our Captain is delegated authority and responsibility for planning, directing, and coordinating the actions of the security staff and for overseeing security, custody and control of patients/residents in an assigned medium security facility. The Captain assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and company property.



    • High school diploma or equivalent required.


    • Five (5) years of experience in correctional, security or police work, two (2) of which has been in a medium/maximum security setting or three (3) of which have been in a minimum security setting.
    • Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
    • Ability to express thoughts logically, in English, in both written and verbal form.
    • Ability to use computers and the typical software such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and various database systems.


    • Must have the ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
    • Must be able to pass and maintain clearance for a Public Trust Position.
    • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license.


    1. Assists the Security Director in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the process for providing maximum security for CCRS at all times.
    2. Ensures the security, sanitation and safety of CCRS, to include buildings, grounds, and perimeter areas.
    3. Ensures that rules and regulations governing security and safety are enforced and necessary corrective action taken when needed.
    4. Documents and reports all discrepancies, malfunctions, safety hazards, and security breeches.
    5. Initiates investigations of any alleged incidents; notifies the Security Director/Facility Administrator.
    6. Act as safety officer for all preplanned Use of Force incidents.
    7. Ensure all incident reports are collected and accurate. Ensure Serious Incident Reports (SIR) are generated and Use of Force packets are complete to include video records of the incident.
    8. Monitors the status and accountability of assigned inmates/residents.
    9. Provides supervision of assigned personnel and becomes thoroughly knowledgeable of related Post Orders and CCRS policies and procedures.
    10. Ensures compliance with CCRS Post Orders including understanding and sign-off by Custody Officers.
    11. Conducts on-the-job training of assigned personnel to include briefings concerning relevant CCRS policies and procedures.
    12. Evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; submits written performance appraisals, counsels, and disciplines assigned personnel in accordance with CCRS policy.
    13. Maintains an open line of communication with all assigned Officers.
    14. Coordinates and provides assistance to medical staff in the healthcare of the inmates/patients.
    15. Ensures that all officers under their care receive the necessary annual training required by SLED.
    16. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
    17. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
    18. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
    19. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
    20. Perform other duties as assigned.
