  • Overview

    Our Investigator is responsible for coordinating the efforts in intelligence gathering operations pertaining particularly to security threats, use of force and any illegal activities involving residents. This highly sensitive and confidential position provides intelligence information to the contracting agency and facility management as required.  Conducts investigations related to rules violations, criminal activities and misconduct as it relates to residents and staff, including management.  This position coordinates with the Office of Ethical and Professional Responsibility (EPR) in conducting investigations and the development of reports on allegations of staff misconduct.  Provides investigative materials and information to the contracting agency and is the liaison with the law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction over the facility.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent certification required. 
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice preferred. 
    • College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working as an investigator in a correctional setting or in law enforcement required.  
    • Must demonstrate understanding of HIPAA and confidentiality in a secure or treatment environment as well as within the primary scope of the responsibilities of this position. 
    • Must possess an understanding of the clinical program environment as integrated within the security department. 
    • Must possess a working knowledge of correctional program objectives, applicable court orders and laws and have a general understanding of the requirements for managing a secure correctional facility. 
    • Demonstration of the abilities needed to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions is required.
    • Must have the ability to make and implement decisions without assistance. 
    • Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, able to command the respect and confidence of inmates and staff, and philosophically committed to the objectives of the facility. 
    • Must have basic report writing and computer skills.

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • None required.

    Responsibilities

    1. Collects intelligence and information regarding activities of gangs, security threat groups and/or suspects related to same at the facility.  Provides input into the facility response to the security threat of group activities.
    2. Identifies and tracks suspicious security threats and possible illegal activities at the facility.
    3. Records and furnishes information as required by the contracting agency regarding special threat group activities.
    4. Investigates reports of rules violations and abuse allegations by residents and/or staff.
    5. Coordinates with Human Resources investigations related to staff. 
    6. Coordinates highly confidential investigations as assigned by EPR for staff misconduct.
    7. Is responsible for the collection and documentation of evidence.
    8. Serves as the facility liaison with law enforcement agencies.
    9. May assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and regulations for custody, security and/or treatment of residents as they pertain to investigations, and gang activities.
    10. May participate in contracting agency gang identification and tracking programs.
    11. Prepares various records and reports as required.
    12. May perform other investigations at different locations and some outside travel may be required and related duties as assigned.
    13. Perform other duties as assigned.
