  • Overview

    Our Security Officer (SO) is responsible for maintaining proper security and safety standards for all residents. Our SO must make security checks and inspections of the entire working environment and correct or report to the proper authority all shortcomings and deficiencies. Our SO must prepare written reports of daily activities, and written reports of disciplinary infractions, accidents and incidents. He/she must develop and maintain a professional rapport with all residents, his/her supervisors and other employees in the working environment.

     

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • High School diploma or GED
    • College degree in related area preferred

    Experience:

    • One (1) year experience in a correctional/security setting or forensic mental health facility

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • Satisfactory completion of academic and on-the-job training as required for certification as a Safety Officer

    Responsibilities

    1. Ensures resident assignments are carried out; monitors all resident activity ensuring order and control.
    2. Ensures safety and compliance with post description as defined by the facility.
    3. Prepares and submits required facility reports without error in accordance with facility policy and time frames.
    4. Safely operates and maintains security devices such as gates, doors, CCTV cameras and perimeter fence microwave and shaker system.
    5. Maintains safety and sanitation standards.
    6. Responds to resident problems, complaints and needs.
    7. Conducts formal and informal counts of residents and reports any discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
    8. Makes sanitation and safety inspections of facility and contents, grounds and vehicles, and corrects or reports shortcomings and deficiencies.
    9. Develops and maintains a professional rapport with all residents under his/her control – to include, responses to their problems and complaints, referring persons for assistance, and resolving verbal and physical disputes among residents.
    10. Ensures resident movement is in compliance with facility policy.
    11. Knowledgeable of all Security Officer Posts including Entry/Exit, Central Control, Escort/Utility/Transportation and Special Management Unit.
    12. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
    13. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
    14. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
    15. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
    16. Perform other duties as assigned.
